Goa Hideaway, Moira, India

GOA HIDEAWAY

If you are looking for a barefoot, chic, relaxed haven – with everything catered for so you do not have to do or worry about a thing during your stay, our Goa Hideaway is for you.

Goa Hideaway is a substantial old Portugese property in a rural setting in the hills of North Goa. It’s located near a village called Moira, just off the quiet road which leads from Mapusa to Aldona. There is a temple and a few locals living close by, so this is where real Indian life goes on.

The house itself is huge and very spacious, and has been fully renovated to a high standard, in keeping with the local architecture. It is set in private grounds with its own Mango tree, Palms, a Cashewnut tree and a very sexy pool!

Just relax and enjoy the peace. It is a very quiet area, but with village life around you. There are parrots, eagles, water buffalo, cows and even an elephant that lives close by and who you will often see out and about. If you are sitting out at night enjoying the peace, you may hear singing coming from the house nearby, always around 8pm! The scent of burning wood and incense is all around in the evening

Your every need is catered for. Just indulge yourself and relax completely. The house is run and looked after by Max, who will be your house manager and (where humanly possible) will look after your every need. Laundry and all household chores will be attended to – the house is cleaned daily.

Dine-at-home service. Dina, Max’s lovely wife, will come and prepare dinner for you and your guests daily should you wish to eat in. Music can be piped into the main rooms, with music of your own choice and mood.

Just treat yourself to a massage or hair and beauty treatment. A wonderful woman can visit the house whenever you wish to give the best Indian head massage. She is also fully qualified to offer other massage and ayurvedic treatments, as well as hair and beauty treatments.

Wherever, whenever you wish to explore, a 24-hour taxi service is available. Max also has a great knowledge of the local area should you wish to be shown around, taken to places of interest or just go fishing or shopping.

Explore out and about. When you’re at the house, you may feel you’re a million miles from anywhere, but nearby is Mapusa, a bustling market town. Wander around the vibrant colourful stalls and shops selling everything from fabric to baskets, local produce, Rajahstani items, pots, embroideries, antiques – in fact everything you could want is there! It also has banks, coffee shops, restaurants, temples, a post office etc.

Further on, past Aldona, you will discover backwaters, rivers for fishing, temples and beautiful countryside. Then there are the northern beaches – Anjuna which hosts the fabulous weekly flea market, Calangute which is great for designer shopping and great restaurants, and Baga which has many antique shops, fabulous restaurants and many Ayurvedic centres. (All are approximately 20 minutes by car.)

Saturday night fever. It's just a short trip to Arpora, where the Saturday night bazaar makes a great evening out. Live music, food stalls and everything you could wish to buy, from fabulous clothing made by westerners to typical Indian items, all so cheap you won’t believe it! There are stalls selling chai and samosas and the atmosphere is unforgettable. And, set in the hills and with its own swimming pools, is the main nightclub in this area. A great night out for everyone! Your taxi will wait wherever you go bring you safely home, whatever the time.

Getting around Goa. If you wish, you can have the use of the house Suzuki open jeep which comfortably seats eight, or you may wish to hire motor bikes or scooters. Also, if you want to go native, the local bus runs from the end of the lane into Mapusa, and from there the buses run all over Goa. Cost? around 12p!!

Goa’s southern beaches are around two hours away, and should you wish to stay there for a day or two, then Samson on Palolem Beach will look after you. His family runs a group of huts on the beach which are very clean and have beds, ensuite showers, fans and electricity, making this paradise beach really fun. Everything you need is available there – good eateries, dolphin spotting, fishing, lazing, and shopping.

Spacious and chic...

The Dining Hall in the centre of the house is an enormous room – its long table can seat at least 14 for dinner. Hopefully the Karma Sutra painting on the wall will titillate your taste buds!

The main family bathroom includes shower, basin and toilet.

The four bedrooms:
-Bedroom 1 has an antique double four-poster bed and its own shower.

Next to this balcony is the pool and, next to the pool, a Rajahstani Wedding tent – actually a permanent structure. Here a further few guests could choose to sleep, or a couple wishing to be alone in a very romantic space of their own. The house is lit by many lanterns (as well as conventional lighting of course) and the high-powered, silent ceiling fans will keep you cool.

Film/fashion shoots and wedding parties
The house is also a great base for film location/fashion shoots.(as well as yoga retreat or pampering break) As well as the house, the verandah and its gorgeous pool, there are fantastic locations in the vicinity which Max can show you. And all this is bathed in the beautiful Goan light. At the end of the lane by the temple, there is ample space to accommodate a number of large trucks if necessary. Large rickshaws are available to transport equipment. Wedding parties can also be accommodated by special arrangement.
